I had to laugh at myself today.  I actually wanted to return to the peaceful solitude of winter!

This past winter I made great progress staying in the present moment.  Those delicious times of peace and joy felt so wonderful.

Unable to locate work outside my home I focused all my energy on creating art and letting go of all those things inside me that kept me from living a life of peace, love and joy.  I dug deep, learned some new ways of letting go and even shared them with my friends and those who read these posts.

I thought I was ready to face anything and still remain in a state of peace, love and joy.  As usual, my expectations were a little too high.

Now that Spring is here I find myself juggling more part-time jobs than ever in addition to building two businesses.  The madness in my head is keeping me from sleeping and slowing down my ability to deal with the tasks at hand.

They say we teach what we most want to learn.  I feel like I just entered graduate school and forgot everything I ever learned.

So, today I am returning to the basics I have been teaching and applying them to my new situation.

Pay attention to the emotions first.  When I feel uncomfortable instead of allowing my mind to keep thinking thoughts that are causing these unwanted feelings I give it a new job to do.  I ask it to help me identify what I am feeling.

Once I know what I am feeling I sit with it and allow myself plenty of time to feel it intensely.  Emotions are energy passing through and I know if I do not let them out they will make me miserable, my body sick and prevent me from finding that place of love, peace and joy.

When the intensity is gone, which only takes a few moments, I imagine myself offering love and compassion to a child or a pet that is hurt or crying.  I hold those thoughts until I begin to feel the love flowing in and through my body.  That allows me to experience the love my emotions were blocking.

Then I offer prayers of thanksgiving for this experience.  I know its purpose was to help me see a part of myself that needed to be healed in order for me to live the loving, peaceful joyful life I desire.

Next I focus my thoughts on gratitude for everything I can think of in my life now.  I am grateful for the chair I sit in, the desk that holds my computer, the computer, the internet that connects me to you.

Ah, now I am feeling better.

It looks like I have a lot to learn this season.  At least with my new tools I can make it an adventure to discover what else needs to go so I can free myself of past behaviors that no longer serve me.

I will keep you posted on my progress.  Who knows, I might learn something that will help you as well.

I spent many years looking for the answers to everything in my life through the experiences of others.  I let my mind trick me into believing everyone else knew this big secret to life but it was just out of my reach.

What I have come to realize is the truth lies inside each and every person.  We were born with that truth inside us.  We have just forgotten how to access it.

Our inner spirit would love to reveal our truth to us if we will just learn to listen.  So how do we listen?

One way is to pay attention to what happens in your heart.

For example, if you are faced with a decision ask your spirit to tell you the truth.  Then ask your spirit “what would it be like if I did choice number one?”

Be still and focus on your heart.  Pay attention to what happens there.

Is your heart closing down?  Is it getting tight, closing up?  Then that is your spirit telling you this is not right for you.

Is your heart opening up?  Do you feel a warm loving pulsing energy in your heart?  Does it feel good?  Then it is right for you.

Now, do the same thing with your second choice.  Which one feels better?  Which one opens up your heart?

Learning to listen to the guidance from your heart takes practice.  If this idea is new to you I recommend taking time several times during your day to practice listening to your heart.

The old saying “follow your heart” is absolutely true.  Following the guidance you receive from your heart will make all the difference in your life.

Spirit Talk

You have a spirit inside you that is always talking to you.

Do you know how to listen to it?

And when you do listen, do you trust what you hear?

That inner spirit knows the truth about you and its job is to help you remember that truth.

Whenever you think a thought you have chosen to believe is true how you feel while you are thinking the thought is your inner spirit talking to you.

If you are feeling any emotion you consider bad you are thinking and believing something that is not the truth about you.

If you feel harmonious, peaceful, joyful, loving, etc. then your spirit is telling you what you are thinking is right for you. It is your truth.

Your job is to remember the truth of who you are and to live that truth here and now.

So how do you do that?

Spend more time each day listening to, agreeing with and believing what your spirit is telling you.

Talk to your spirit.  Ask it questions and trust what it tells you.

Get a spiral notebook and write your questions.  Then, without thinking about it write whatever comes to mind.   Do this everyday for at least a month and see what kind of insights you gain.

I spent several months asking my inner spirit these two questions everyday and recording them.  At first I did not trust the process but I kept it up.  It was amazing what I learned about myself.

The two questions were:

“Inner Spirit, what does it feel like to be inside this body today?”

“Inner Spirit, what can I do today to allow you to fulfill your purpose here?”

Those were my questions.  But, you must find your own questions.  What truth are you seeking for yourself?  Your inner spirit knows the answer and is ready to tell you.

Practice listening.  Spend more time talking, listening and trusting your spirit.  It always tells the truth.  And knowing that truth will set you free.
